Folding Attic Stairs

If you are in the process of remodeling your home, or perhaps even building a new one, you may want to consider the option of installing folding attic stairs. These types of stairs have several benefits that appeal to homeowners and can be easily installed with very little hassle.

The most appealing advantage to folding attic stairs is that they’re wonderful space savers. Access to the attics in most homes is through an upstairs hall, which may or may not have the extra space needed to install a regular set of stairs.

But with folding attic stairs, there’s no need to install actual steps, as these units are mounted to a trapdoor opening in the attic, and then unfolded for use. When needed, open the stairs, until each section has completely unfolded and is now resting on the floor, then, simply close the folding stairs, and secure the latch to the opening.

Yet another advantage of having a set of folding attic stairs is that they require a relatively low amount of upkeep and maintenance. The mounting brackets and hardware used to keep the stairs firmly in place will need to be checked a few times per year to ensure everything is functioning properly. A few simply safety measures are all it takes to keep your folding attic stairs working their best, and keeping them safe for your family to use regularly.

Luckily, there are a wide variety of pre-assembled folding attic stairs to purchase that often come with reasonable price tags.

If you must replace your entire set of stairs, installing a new one shouldn’t take much time at all. First, the supports will need to be unscrewed from the attic door, then remove all of the brackets and the rest of the mechanism, and simply secure your new unit into place.

If you’re building or remodeling your home, check with a contractor or your local hardware supply store for their recommendations about which units would work the best in your particular home. Folding attic stairs are an easy way to free up space, provide access to the attic, and are a reasonably priced alternative to a traditional staircase.
