Pull Down Attic Stairs

There are many styles of homes, both old and new, that would benefit from having one or two sets of pull down stairs leading to the attic space. Here are just a few of the reasons why you may also want to consider having two sets of pull down attic stairs in your home.

Often, larger homes feature attic spaces that span the entire area of the house. This can be divided into several, separate rooms, or be one large open space.

In either case, moving from one end of the attic to another, especially if it’s used primarily for storage can be difficult, particularly while carrying boxes or other cumbersome items. With two exits from the attic instead of one, that problem is quickly solved.

In most homes, access to the attic is primarily through either a staircase, or a set of pull down stairs located in an upstairs hallway. If many cases, this isn’t always the most practical way to enter the attic, but the only option seemingly available.

If the hall is narrow, it may be difficult getting larger or awkwardly shaped items in and out of the attic. However, if there were an extra set of stairs accessible from a bedroom or other hallway, this would certainly be an added benefit, and great solution to an annoying problem.

Just for safety purposes alone, installing an extra set of pull down attic stairs makes sense for all types of homes.

In the case of a fire or other emergency, there’s always another potential exit, as opposed to using a window three stories from the ground as the only means of escape. In some instances, this one feature may also warrant a discount on a homeowner’s insurance policy.

Depending on the size of the attic and what it’s used for, and the layout of the rooms on the second floor below, two pairs of pull down attic stairs may be just the extra addition your home needs. Decide on the best placement for both sets, and then go about finding a design and size that would work well with your existing space.
