Rustic Stair Railing Designs

If you have a home in which the décor is inspired by the Wild West and Prairie Life, you will want a set of stair railings that reflect that theme.
After all, using a pink colored unicorn etched hand rail would not be the right look for a rustic theme house. You would need a rustic stair railing design to match the rest of the décor and complete the look. The following are some designs that you could choose from to complete the rustic look you are going for in your home.
One rustic stair railing design is the full log stringers railing. This railing looks as though you went out into the forest, cut down a few trees and fashioned the railing, along with the stairs, with the bare minimums of your hands and a saw.
The vertical and horizontal logs are sanded down and hold each other in place. There seems to be nothing other than the logs holding this railing and stair set together. Because this staircase is made from logs that have to be put together, it can be turned and angled different ways to create an interesting look on the staircase.
Another rustic stair railing design is the diamond willow railing. This railing is constructed from a Douglas fir or other type of tree that is similar to a Douglas tree.
The railing itself is more slender than any other piece of wood on the staircase but holds the vertical pieces of wood upright well. It also gives the look of a slender top, calling attention to the more masculine stairs. While this can be changed, if the customer desires, this type of railing gives a unique feel of a slender piece of wood but the strength of the forest.
Twigs can lend an interesting and pretty look to a crop out small balcony in the railing of the staircase. It can be connected to a slightly bent large piece of wood and the twigs connect the large pieces of wood from the top to the bottom.
Because the twigs are naturally bent and shaped, it creates a truly unique and beautiful piece that is not only functional as a safety feature, but also as a center piece for discussion and a focal point of the room. During holidays, the decoration of this piece with holiday lights will create a rustic down home feeling while still sporting a masculine look.
The last type of rustic stair railing design that will be discussed is the log ladder railing. This railing is larger than all the other types and is very straight as opposed to the other types of railings.
As its name implies, it looks very much like a ladder, which can work well in any house, rustic or otherwise. Because the log ladder is very sturdy, it is ideal for a family with small children because it can offer a large place for the child to grasp on when they are walking down the stairs.
